Zimbabwean doctors use condoms as gloves

ZIMBABWE’S striking doctors claim they are being forced to use condoms as gloves when performing examinations because of a shortage of gloves in the country.

Junior general practitioners have been on strike for three weeks demanding their salaries be paid in American dollars. They are also asking the government to address what they say is a critical shortage of needed medicines, surgical and medical essentials.

The government says ‘no’ to paying salaries in US dollars.

Zimbabwe hospital doctors association says hospitals are lacking even jelly which is needed for lubrication, hence a resort to condoms that already come with lubrication.

The doctors have refused to return to work while negotiations continue.
